The WALTER 6154484 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert engineered for high-performance drilling in steel and stainless steel applications. It carries the WXP40 manufacturer grade and is part of the Tiger Tec series, featuring a PVD-applied coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The insert conforms to an inscribed circle of 10.29 mm (0.405 inches) with a thickness of 0.162 inches and a 0.58 mm corner radius. The square shape provides four usable cutting edges, reducing per-edge cost in production environments. Machining professionals and tool crib technicians working in P-class and M-class material grades will find this insert directly applicable to high-productivity drilling operations.
This insert is designed for right-hand cutting direction and is suited for drilling into primary workpiece materials classified under ISO material grades P40, M30, and S30 - covering general steels and stainless steels in both light and heavy-duty machining environments. The A57 chipbreaker geometry supports chip control across a range of feed rates typical in indexable drill bodies sized for insert size code 48. It is applicable in both production shop and maintenance machining contexts where consistent hole quality and repeatable insert indexing are required.
Designed for use in indexable drill bodies accepting insert size code 48, insert size 5, with a square (90-degree) seat configuration. Primary material compatibility covers ISO P-class steels and M-class stainless steels per grade designations P40, M30, and S30.
Indexable drill insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer when seating the insert - do not overtighten or improvise with unrated drivers. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for debris or damage before indexing to a new cutting edge. Always verify cutting direction and insert orientation against the drill body documentation before resuming operation.
