The WALTER 6154481 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in a square shape, designed for use in indexable drilling systems on CNC machining centers and drill presses. Manufactured to the P48448A57 insert style with a WXP40 grade coating applied via PVD process, this insert belongs to the Tiger Tec series and is engineered for high-performance cutting in stainless steel and steel applications. It features a 8.41 mm inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.48 mm, and provides four usable cutting edges per insert, making it a cost-effective choice for production drilling operations. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling specialists.
This insert is suited for indexable drill bodies requiring a square P484 insert style with a right-hand cutting direction. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in workpieces made from stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P). The A57 chipbreaker geometry is designed to manage chip control in these materials at production feeds and speeds. It is appropriate for both light production shops and high-volume manufacturing environments where consistent hole quality and tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in indexable drill bodies that accept a square P484-style insert with insert size code 48 and a right-hand cutting configuration. Verify drill body seat dimensions against the 8.41 mm inscribed circle and 0.132-inch thickness before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or insert-clamping wrench specified by the drill body manufacturer to secure the insert seat; do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
