The WALTER 6154461 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for high-performance drilling applications in stainless steel and steel. Manufactured to the WXP40 grade and part of the Tiger Tec series, this insert features a PVD coating that supports cutting demands in ISO material groups P and M. The square insert geometry delivers a 90-degree included angle and provides four usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per hole. With an inscribed circle of 10.29 mm (0.405 inches) and a thickness of 0.162 inches, this insert is engineered for consistent dimensional accuracy in demanding production environments. Installation is handled by qualified machinists and tooling technicians.
This insert is suited for indexable drill bodies used in turning centers, machining centers, and drill presses where replaceable carbide inserts are required. The E67 chipbreaker geometry is optimized for right-hand cutting operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces. The WXP40 grade covers a broad range of P40, M30, and S30 material classifications, making it adaptable across a range of production drilling tasks in both roughing and semi-finishing contexts.
Designed for use with indexable drill bodies that accept square P484 style inserts with a size code of 48 and an ISO code of P4840C-5R-E67 WXP40. Verify seat geometry and clamping configuration against the specific drill body manufacturer specifications before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle stopped and machine power locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the correct insert screw driver to seat the insert - do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Confirm cutting direction and insert orientation against the drill body documentation prior to resuming operation.
