The WALTER 6153444 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Carrying the WSM33S manufacturer grade, this double-ended insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.50 mm. The insert uses a PVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN to resist heat and wear during high-speed cuts. The neutral hand orientation and full-radius corner geometry (1.50 mm corner radius) make it well suited for demanding stock-removal and finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys.
This insert is engineered primarily for superalloy workpiece materials, with material grade compatibility listed as S30, M30, and P35, covering stainless, ISO-M, and ISO-P material groups. The Tiger-tec series designation reflects Walter's high-performance coating platform, targeting applications where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. Typical installations include aerospace component machining, medical device turning, and general-purpose CNC grooving on materials that accelerate tool wear. The clamp-style insert holding method suits standard Walter GX-system toolholders.
Designed for use in Walter GX-system clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting the GX2E300N15 insert size. Primary workpiece material codes are M, P, and S, covering stainless steels, general steels, and superalloys. Verify toolholder compatibility with Walter catalog references for the GX24 insert family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full E-stop and all spindle motion confirmed stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified clamp torque per the toolholder documentation, and inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the listed maximum depth of cut of 1.50 mm, as overloading a grooving insert can cause sudden edge fracture. Follow shop-specific lockout/tagout procedures in accordance with applicable OSHA standards before any tooling change.
