The WALTER 6150787 is a VNMG332-MK5 WKK20S solid carbide turning insert engineered for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer TiCN/Al2O3/TiCN coating under the proprietary WKK20S Tiger-tec Silver grade designation. The insert has a 35-degree diamond shape (V), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. Four cutting edges are available per insert. The MK5 chip breaker geometry is designed for controlled chip formation across a range of depths and feed rates. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify and install this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations. Its primary target workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K, material grade K20), with steel as a secondary application (ISO P, material grade P10). The negative rake and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style support interrupted and continuous cuts in production environments. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm). The insert is held by clamp or pin-type toolholders compatible with VNMG insert pockets. This product complies with ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders with clamp or pin clamping. Compatible toolholders must accept an insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, 0.150-inch hole diameter, and N-clearance / M-tolerance codes per ANSI and ISO VNMG pocket specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and verify the clamping screw or pin is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert index to prevent premature edge failure.
