The WALTER 6092474 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying grade WSM33S and insert style designation GX3E400R6CE4. It is engineered for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied multilayer coating combining Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 22 mm, it is suited to deep grooving passes in difficult-to-machine materials. A 6-degree lead angle and CE4 chip breaker geometry round out the cutting geometry. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for machining superalloys, stainless steels, and general steels, corresponding to material grade classifications S30, M30, and P35. It fits turning and grooving applications where long tool life in tough workpiece materials is the primary requirement. The right-hand cutting orientation suits standard clamping toolholders configured for right-hand operation. The CE4 chip breaker is optimized for controlled chip evacuation during grooving in heat-resistant and stainless alloys, reducing the risk of chip packing in deep slots.
Designed for use in GX-system clamp-style grooving toolholders sized for 3E400R6 inserts. Material grade ratings S30, M30, and P35 indicate suitability for steels, stainless steels, and superalloys per ISO workpiece classification.
This insert is seated and clamped by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for damage or debris before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry, as overloading the cutting edge can cause premature failure or insert fracture.
