The WALTER 6089966 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Tiger-tec series, designed for high-performance grooving operations on CNC turning centers and machining cells. Built to the GX2E300N02CF6 WSM43S specification, this insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 22.00 mm, and a 0.20 mm corner radius. The WSM43S grade uses a PVD-applied aluminum-based coating that targets tough-to-machine superalloys, stainless steels, and general steel applications. The double-end design extends tool life by providing two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for precision grooving, parting, and recessing operations in both light production and high-volume turning environments. It is engineered primarily for superalloy workpieces, with material grade coverage across S45, M45, and P45 classifications, making it applicable across a broad range of ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. The CF6 chip breaker geometry manages chip evacuation effectively in these demanding cutting conditions. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel families will find this insert particularly well matched to those applications.
Compatible with GX-style clamping toolholders that accept the 2E300N02 insert size. Conforms to ANSI code GX242E300N02CF6 WSM43S and ISO code GX24-2E300N02-CF6. Verify toolholder specification against insert size code before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Seat the insert fully into the GX-style clamp pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's published specification. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Handle solid carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges during indexing.
