The WALTER 5908087 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432NMS WSM10 configuration, designed for high-demand metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer PVD coating consisting of TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN, which provides heat resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, and an insert length of 15.49 mm (0.6104 inches). With four available cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, it delivers consistent performance across roughing and medium machining applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the Walter Tiger-tec series.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary application in steel (ISO code P). It is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations in both production and job-shop environments. The NMS chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes where chip control and edge stability are critical. The insert uses a clamp and pin holding method and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards, making it interchangeable with compatible toolholders dimensioned to the DNMG432 or ISO DNMG150408 specification.
Designed for use in DNMG432 (ANSI) or DNMG150408 (ISO) compatible toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and superalloys and titanium; secondary application is steel. Material grades M10, P10, and S10 apply per the Walter grading system.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Verify clamp torque using the toolholder manufacturer's specification and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
