The WALTER 5882880 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation P23696-2.0 WKP35S. Designed for high feed rate milling operations, this double-sided triangular insert delivers six cutting edges per insert, extending tool life and reducing cost per edge. The CVD-applied multilayer coating - TiCN / Al2O3 / TiCN - provides thermal resistance and wear protection suited to demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. At 0.292 inches thick with a 0.063-inch corner radius, it is engineered for aggressive material removal in steel and cast iron applications. Installation uses a screw-holding method and the insert features a positive rake geometry for reduced cutting forces.
This insert is intended for professional machining environments where steel and cast iron are the primary workpiece materials. It is compatible with the Walter F4030 cutter series and is classified under material grade P35 and K35. The right-hand configuration and common chip breaker style make it suitable for a wide range of face milling and high feed milling setups in production and job-shop contexts. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers operating industrial milling centers are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use with the Walter F4030 cutter series. Rated for steel (material code P) and cast iron (material code K) workpieces. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards under designation P23696-2.0 WKP35S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using the screw-holding method standard to this insert style - ensure the clamping screw is torqued according to the cutter body manufacturer specifications, not the insert datasheet. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before installation, as contamination will affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy. Follow the cutter body manufacturer guidelines for indexing sequence when rotating to a fresh cutting edge.
