The WALTER 5834965 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in demanding industrial applications. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN applied over a WSM20 carbide grade substrate. The insert measures 11.63 mm (0.458 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.008-inch corner radius. A positive rake angle of 18 degrees and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces and extend tool life. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations.
This insert is suited for light to medium turning of stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, with steel as a secondary material. The PF2 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during finishing and semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholders. It is commonly used in job shops, aerospace component machining, and precision part manufacturing where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The ANSI insert code is DCGT32.50.5 and the ISO insert code is DCGT11T302.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting DCGT-style inserts with screw clamping. Compatible with ANSI size code DCGT32.50.5 and ISO size code DCGT11T302 toolholder seats. Part of the WALTER Tiger-tec series, DCGT-PF2 family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify correct insert orientation and clamping torque before resuming cuts.
