The WALTER 5615026 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It follows the DCMT insert style with a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The WSM20 grade features a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN for thermal resistance and wear life in demanding materials. The PF4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, producing controlled chips at light-to-moderate depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install and index this insert in compatible DCMT-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations in both light production and job-shop environments. It targets primary workpiece materials classified as stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material groups M and S), with secondary suitability for steel (ISO group P). The positive rake angle and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces on difficult-to-machine alloys, making this insert well-matched to finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It carries dual ANSI and ISO standards compliance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling insert for DCMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO DCMT insert seating specifications. ANSI insert code DCMT32.51; ISO insert code DCMT11T304.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for chips or damage before each use; a damaged edge on superalloy workpieces can affect surface integrity and dimensional tolerance.
