The WALTER 5614940 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Conforming to ANSI code DCMT32.51 and ISO code DCMT11T304, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a positive rake angle of 12 degrees. The WSM20 substrate is finished with a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN layers, optimizing edge life and heat resistance when cutting difficult materials. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0157 inches). It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with steel as a secondary application material. The PM5 chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. With two available cutting edges and screw-style insert holding, it is suited for production environments requiring reliable chip control across varied cut depths up to 0.1525 inches. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible setup on most standard toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for DCMT-series toolholders accepting ANSI size code 32.51 (ISO size code 11T304). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for direct cross-reference into compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw to seat the insert correctly in the pocket - do not overtighten by hand or use improvised tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool geometry.
