The WALTER 5614916 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-PM5 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch (0.0315 inch) corner radius, and a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN. The PM5 chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining operations. With 2 cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, and a 7-degree relief angle, this insert is engineered for productive metal removal rates while maintaining edge stability in demanding applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and S (superalloys and titanium) as primary workpiece materials, with ISO group P (steel) as a secondary application. The CCMT format and screw-on holding method make it compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders used across a wide range of production and job-shop turning setups. Material grades M20, P20, and S20 indicate suitability for moderate to demanding cutting conditions. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician typically specifies and installs this insert.
Designed for use in standard CCMT-style turning toolholders per ANSI and ISO specifications. ANSI insert code CCMT32.52; ISO insert code CCMT09T308. Suitable for toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle CCMT insert with a 0.173 inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before changing inserts, power down and lock out the machine spindle per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life.
