The WALTER 5354788 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Coated with a multilayer PVD TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN stack under the Tiger-tec series, this insert carries manufacturer grade WSM30 and is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, and a positive rake and side clearance geometry. The insert holds two cutting edges and uses a screw-type holding method. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium will find this geometry appropriate for high-wear-resistance toolpath demands.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel and superalloy and titanium workpiece materials (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel (ISO code P). Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The PM5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, managing chip control across a maximum depth of cut of 3.99 mm (0.157 inches). It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI insert code CCMT32.52 and ISO insert code CCMT09T308.
Designed as an OEM-compatible replacement or direct application insert for toolholders accepting CCMT-style inserts with ANSI size code 32.52 and ISO size code 09T308. Suitable for use in turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes configured for positive-rake CCMT geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout performance.
