Product Description

The WALTER 5354786 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. It carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a positive rake geometry with honed cutting edge style. It is suited for use in CNC turning centers and manual lathes where consistent chip control during roughing and medium machining operations is required. Each insert provides two usable cutting edges.

This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary application in steel (ISO code P). It is compatible with screw-clamping toolholders designed for CCMT-style inserts and operates within the Tiger-tec WSM30 grade family. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring operations in aerospace, oil and gas, and precision manufacturing environments where difficult-to-machine materials are common. The PM5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium-pass operations.

Key Features

  • Multilayer PVD coating (TiAlN, Al2O3, ZrCN) for high heat and wear resistance
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape with positive rake angle of 12 degrees and positive side clearance
  • PM5 chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining operations
  • Two cutting edges per insert for extended tool life per unit
  • Honed cutting edge style for improved edge stability in tough alloys
  • Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards (ANSI: CCMT32.51, ISO: CCMT09T304)

Compatibility

Designed for use with CCMT-style screw-clamping toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO M and S); secondary application is general steel (ISO P). Material grades M30, P30, and S30 apply.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm) as specified for this insert geometry.
