The WALTER 5022077 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the industry designation CCMT432-PM5WAK20, engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, building wear resistance for both abrasive and thermally intensive cuts. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge with positive rake and positive side clearance, while the PM5 chip breaker geometry handles roughing and medium machining operations. Insert length is 0.508 inches (12.9 mm), inscribed circle is 0.5 inches, and corner radius is 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch). The part is screw-held and suited for turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is designed for primary use in cast iron (ISO material code K, grade K20) and secondary use in steel (ISO material code P, grade P10). Typical applications include roughing and medium-finish passes on CNC turning centers in production machining environments, automotive component shops, and general metalworking facilities. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for CCMT-style inserts. The two available cutting edges support tool rotation to extend usable life between changeovers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CCMT432 toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with toolholders specifying CCMT insert style, tolerance code M, clearance code C, and screw-clamping retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on cast iron and steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Confirm insert seating and edge orientation before resuming spindle operation.
