The VLIER SSSD57 is a threaded spring plunger designed for use in fixturing, tooling, positioning, and light mechanical detent applications. The plunger features a 5/16-18 thread with a 1 inch thread length and a stainless steel body for corrosion resistance in demanding environments. The Delrin nose provides a smooth, low-friction contact surface. Initial end force measures 1.5 pounds and final end force measures 4.5 pounds, making it suitable for light-duty indexing and positioning tasks where controlled spring resistance is required. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and mechanical assembly professionals install this type of hardware.
The SSSD57 is suited for use in machine tool fixtures, jigs, and component positioning assemblies where a compact, corrosion-resistant spring plunger is needed. The standard-length plunger body and 3/16 inch projection make it appropriate for applications with limited depth clearance. It is commonly installed in threaded holes in aluminum, steel, or plastic fixture plates where repeatable detent or positioning force is required.
Designed as a standard-thread spring plunger for use in machine tool fixtures, jigs, and mechanical positioning assemblies requiring a 5/16-18 threaded bore.
Installation is performed by threading the plunger body into a tapped hole using a hex key or spanner tool appropriate for the body drive style. Ensure the mating tapped hole is clean and free of debris before installation. Do not overtighten, as this can preload the spring and alter end force values. Thread engagement and torque should follow general fastener best practices for the base material.
