The VLIER SSS66N is a threaded spring plunger designed for precise, repeatable positioning and holding in mechanical assemblies. The body and nose are both constructed from stainless steel, providing corrosion resistance in demanding environments. The plunger delivers 16 pounds of initial end force and 68 pounds of final end force, making it suitable for moderate-to-firm holding applications. Thread size is 1/8, with a body and thread length of 2-13/32 inches. A built-in locking element secures the plunger in the threaded bore after installation. This component is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians in industrial and precision manufacturing settings.
The SSS66N is used in jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, and machine components where a spring-loaded plunger is needed to index, locate, or retain a workpiece or moving part. The 1/2-inch projection allows the nose to engage mating detents or surfaces without excessive overhang. The stainless steel construction suits applications involving washdown, cutting fluids, or mild chemical exposure. The locking element prevents the plunger from backing out under vibration, which is critical in high-cycle or dynamic load environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install threaded spring plunger for use in standard 1/8-inch threaded bores in jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, and similar precision mechanical assemblies.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a hex key or spanner tool appropriate for the plunger head style. The threaded bore should be clean and free of debris before installation. The locking element engages the bore threads during final tightening - do not overtighten, as this can damage the locking feature or distort the bore. Always confirm the plunger is fully seated and the locking element is engaged before returning the assembly to service.
