The VLIER SSPH48 is a standard threaded spring plunger designed for precision indexing, positioning, and light-duty detent applications in mechanical assemblies. The body and nose are both constructed from stainless steel, making this plunger well suited for corrosive or cleanroom environments where carbon steel components are not acceptable. The 6-32 thread allows installation directly into tapped holes in metal or plastic assemblies. Initial end force is 1.5 pounds, middle end force is 3.0 pounds, and final end force is 4.5 pounds, giving designers a predictable spring-force progression across the full plunger travel. Machinists, toolmakers, and mechanical assembly technicians are the primary installers of this component.
This plunger is used in light mechanical positioning and detent applications across industrial, tooling, and instrumentation assemblies. The 6-32 thread size and 17/32-inch body length make it appropriate for compact assemblies where space is constrained. The 1/16-inch projection provides a short, controlled nose travel suitable for repeatable part registration or light locking action. It is typically installed in pre-tapped bores in fixtures, jigs, machine components, and enclosures where a low-profile spring-loaded detent is required.
Designed as a standard OEM-style threaded spring plunger for use in any mechanical assembly with a 6-32 tapped bore requiring a stainless steel spring-loaded detent or positioning element.
Installation is performed by threading the plunger body into a pre-tapped 6-32 bore using a hex key sized for the 0.050-inch hex drive. Power down or de-energize any equipment before accessing the assembly. Do not overtighten, as the small thread size is susceptible to cross-threading and galling in aluminum or plastic bores. Confirm bore depth accommodates the full 17/32-inch body length before installation.
