The VLIER SSML12A is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty retention applications in mechanical assemblies. The body and nose are both constructed from stainless steel, making it suitable for environments where corrosion resistance is required. It features an M12 x 1.75 thread with a 1.102-inch thread length and a maximum plunger diameter of 0.236 inches. A locking element is incorporated into the design to secure the plunger body in the tapped hole once installed. Initial end force is 2.25 pounds and final end force is 12.36 pounds. This part is typically installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical assemblers.
The SSML12A is suited for use in fixtures, jigs, machine tool components, and industrial equipment where repeatable positioning or spring-loaded detent action is needed. The M12 x 1.75 thread size fits standard metric tapped holes of that specification. The locking element eliminates the need for thread-locking compounds in most standard installations, keeping the plunger body from backing out under vibration or repeated actuation. This plunger is appropriate for both light manufacturing and maintenance applications where a compact, corrosion-resistant solution is required.
Designed for installation in any application requiring an M12 x 1.75 metric threaded spring plunger with a standard plunger length profile and locking-element retention.
Installation requires a properly tapped M12 x 1.75 through or blind hole of sufficient depth to accommodate the 1.102-inch body length. Use an appropriate hex key or spanner tool per the manufacturer's installation specification - do not use pliers directly on the plunger nose. Ensure the mating component is fully depressurized or de-energized before servicing any assembly in which this plunger is installed. The locking element is designed to engage the thread upon full seating; do not overtighten, as this may damage the locking element or the receiving thread.
