The VLIER SSFR250 is a locking L-handle spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and holding applications in mechanical assemblies. The plunger threads into a tapped hole using a 1/4-20 thread and delivers an initial end force of 0.5 pounds rising to a final end force of 2.5 pounds. The plunger diameter measures 0.16 inches, and total body length is 1.25 inches. Constructed from stainless steel, this unit resists corrosion in wash-down, marine, and food-processing environments. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision assembly professionals install this type of component to maintain repeatable part registration without the need for secondary fasteners.
The SSFR250 is suited for use in jigs, fixtures, and production tooling where a spring-loaded locating element must lock in the extended position until manually released. The L-handle design allows the operator to retract and lock the plunger by rotating the handle, providing positive retention in both extended and retracted states. This makes it appropriate for automated or semi-automated assembly lines, test fixtures, and adjustable workholding setups where repeatability and operator ease of use are required.
Designed as a direct-install spring plunger for any mechanical assembly or fixture with a 1/4-20 tapped hole requiring a locking, spring-loaded locating element.
Installation is performed by threading the SSFR250 body into a pre-tapped 1/4-20 hole using a hex wrench sized to the 0.25-inch hex on the body. Secure the plunger to the specified holding torque per the fixture design requirements using a calibrated torque wrench. Power down or de-energize any automated equipment before servicing spring plungers seated in active tooling. Do not over-torque the threaded body, as this can damage the stainless steel threads or alter the spring force characteristics.
