The VLIER SSB47P is a threaded ball plunger engineered for controlled end-force applications where precise, repeatable positioning is required. This spring-loaded device features a 0.062-inch stainless steel ball and a stainless steel body, delivering an initial end force of 0.25 pounds and a final end force of 0.75 pounds. At 1/4 inch in body length, the SSB47P is among the smallest and lightest spring-loaded plunger designs available for 5-40 threaded installations. A built-in locking element secures the plunger in position after installation. It is installed by mechanical assemblers and precision machine technicians in applications requiring consistent, low-force detent or positioning action.
The SSB47P is suited for light-duty controlled-force positioning in precision assemblies, jigs, fixtures, and small mechanical devices. The 5-40 thread size targets applications where space is at a premium and minimal footprint is required. The maximum ball reach of 0.02 inches makes it appropriate for detent indexing, panel latching, and component alignment tasks in tight-tolerance assemblies. Its stainless steel construction makes it a practical choice in environments where corrosion resistance is a consideration.
Designed as a direct-fit threaded ball plunger for assemblies and fixtures requiring a 5-40 thread form with stainless steel construction and controlled spring-end force.
Installation requires a properly tapped 5-40 threaded hole in the mating component. Use appropriate small-drive tooling to avoid over-torquing the body, which can damage the locking element or distort the thread. Verify that ball reach clearance in the mating surface matches the 0.02-inch maximum ball reach before finalizing assembly. Disengage or isolate any powered or spring-energized mechanisms in the assembly before installing or removing the plunger.
