The VLIER SBM12N is a threaded ball plunger with an M12 x 1.75 thread size, designed for precision positioning, detenting, and indexing applications in mechanical assemblies. The body and ball are both constructed from stainless steel, providing corrosion resistance in demanding environments. The plunger delivers an initial end force of 6.75 pounds and a final end force of 12.36 pounds, making it suitable for controlled-force applications where repeatable engagement is critical. A locking element is integrated into the design to secure the plunger after installation. This part is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical assemblers working on fixtures, jigs, tooling, and OEM equipment.
The SBM12N is suited for use in controlled end-force applications where side-load tolerance is required. Its compact form factor makes it one of the smallest and lightest spring-loaded positioning devices available in the M12 thread class. Typical install scenarios include machine tool fixtures, assembly jigs, dial mechanisms, and industrial equipment requiring repeatable tactile detent positions. The stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for wash-down, food processing, or corrosive-environment settings.
Designed for use in any threaded bore or tapped hole accepting an M12 x 1.75 metric thread, including machine fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies requiring spring-loaded ball detent or positioning functions.
Installation is performed by machinists or mechanical technicians using a standard hex wrench or spanner sized for the body. Ensure the mating tapped hole is clean and free of debris before threading in the plunger. De-energize or lock out any powered equipment before servicing assemblies containing this plunger. The integrated locking element should be engaged per the manufacturer torque guidance to prevent loosening under vibration - do not overtighten, as this may restrict ball movement.
