The VLIER S56 is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty holding applications in mechanical assemblies. The plunger body and nose are both steel construction, offering durability in industrial and trade environments. It uses a 5/16-18 thread with a 1 inch thread length, a plunger projection of 3/16 inch, and a plunger diameter ranging from 0.133 to 0.135 inches. Initial end force is 3 pounds and final end force is 15 pounds, making it suitable for light detent and positioning tasks. Machinists, millwrights, and mechanical assembly technicians are the typical installers of this component.
The S56 fits into tapped holes in machine frames, fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and mechanical subassemblies where repeatable positioning or soft detent action is required. It is a standard-length plunger style appropriate for general industrial and light manufacturing applications. No locking element is incorporated, so the plunger can be installed and adjusted without thread-locking compounds unless the application requires them.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install threaded spring plunger for tapped 5/16-18 holes in mechanical fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and light industrial assemblies.
Install into a clean, properly tapped 5/16-18 through or blind hole using a hex key or appropriate drive tool. Ensure the mating hole depth accommodates the 1 inch body length plus desired plunger travel. De-energize or lock out any moving equipment before installing or removing spring plungers in active assemblies. Apply thread-locking compound only if the application requires a fixed installation, as the part has no integrated locking element.
