The VLIER NS59 is a standard threaded spring plunger designed to provide controlled indexing, positioning, and light clamping force in mechanical assemblies. The body is machined from steel with a phenolic nose, offering corrosion resistance at the contact point and reduced marring on mating surfaces. The plunger threads into a 3/8-16 tapped hole with a 1-1/8 inch thread length, delivering an initial end force of 2.8 pounds and a final end force of 7.2 pounds. The plunger diameter ranges from 0.185 to 0.187 inches with a 3/16 inch projection. This type of hardware is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and mechanical assemblers in production and maintenance environments.
The NS59 suits applications where repeatable detent positioning or light retention force is required. Common install scenarios include machine tool fixtures, jigs, assembly tooling, industrial equipment panels, and motion-control mechanisms. The phenolic nose material makes it appropriate for use against softer mating surfaces where a steel-on-steel contact point would cause galling or unwanted wear. This plunger is intended for installations where no locking element is required on the threaded body.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install threaded spring plunger for machinery, fixtures, and tooling assemblies requiring a 3/8-16 tapped hole with standard thread length.
Installation is performed by machinists or mechanical assemblers using a hex wrench or spanner appropriate for the plunger body. Ensure the receiving tapped hole is clean and free of debris before threading in the plunger. De-energize or lock out any powered equipment before installing or adjusting spring plungers in automated or motorized assemblies. Do not overtighten, as the steel body can distort the threaded bore if excessive torque is applied without a locking element present.
