The VLIER NS54N is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty detent applications in industrial assemblies. It features a 1/4-20 thread with a 1 inch thread length and a standard plunger projection of 3/16 inch. The plunger diameter ranges from 0.116 to 0.118 inches and is constructed with a steel body and phenolic nose. A built-in locking element secures the plunger in position after installation, preventing rotation or back-out under vibration. Initial end force is 3 pounds and final end force is 13 pounds, making it suitable for light positioning tasks requiring consistent, repeatable spring-loaded engagement.
This spring plunger is used in machine tools, fixtures, jigs, assembly equipment, and precision positioning applications. Its compact 1/4-20 threaded body threads directly into a tapped hole in metal or rigid plastic components. The phenolic nose reduces wear on mating surfaces while the steel body provides structural durability in demanding shop-floor or industrial environments. It is typically installed by machinists, tool and die makers, and mechanical assembly technicians.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit threaded spring plunger for industrial fixtures, jigs, and positioning assemblies requiring a 1/4-20 tapped hole.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or mechanical assembly technicians using a standard hex key or spanner tool sized for the plunger body. Thread the plunger into a clean, properly tapped 1/4-20 hole and torque only to the point of firm seating - the locking element will secure it in place. De-energize or lock out any equipment before servicing assemblies containing this plunger. Do not exceed the rated final end force by overloading the plunger nose, as this may cause premature wear to the phenolic tip.
