The VLIER NM60N is a stubby threaded spring plunger designed for positioning, indexing, and light-duty detent applications in mechanical assemblies. It features a 1/2-13 thread with a 0.75 inch thread length and a maximum plunger diameter of 0.248 inches. The plunger delivers 5 pounds of initial end force and 28 pounds of final end force, making it well suited for repeatable holding or locating tasks. The steel body provides durable resistance to wear and deformation under repeated cycling. A Delrin nose reduces friction and protects mating surfaces from galling. The integrated locking element secures the plunger body in the tapped hole without requiring additional thread-locking compound. This part is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians in production fixtures, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies.
The NM60N fits applications where a compact, stubby-profile plunger is required and installation depth is limited. The 1/2-13 thread is a common inch-series thread found in steel and aluminum fixtures across manufacturing and industrial maintenance environments. Typical use cases include jig and fixture indexing, drawer or panel detents, and assembly alignment aids. The 0.151 inch plunger projection provides a short, controlled engagement stroke appropriate for light indexing loads.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded spring plunger for use in any standard 1/2-13 tapped hole in fixtures, tooling plates, or mechanical assemblies requiring a stubby-profile indexing or detent plunger.
Installation requires a properly tapped 1/2-13 hole in the mating component. Depressurize or de-energize any assembly before installing or removing spring plungers in live tooling or powered equipment. Use an appropriate hex key or spanner to engage the locking element and secure the body at the desired installation depth. Avoid over-torquing the body, as this can deform the thread or affect spring preload.
