The VLIER NM50AP is a stubby threaded spring plunger designed to provide controlled positioning, indexing, and light-duty retention in mechanical assemblies. The plunger features an 8-32 thread with a body length of 0.437 inches and a maximum plunger diameter of 0.07 inches. Projection measures 0.052 inches. Initial end force is 1.5 pounds, rising to a final end force of 4.75 pounds under full compression. The steel body pairs with a Delrin nose for low-friction contact against mating surfaces. A locking element is included to secure the plunger in the threaded bore once positioned. This component is installed by mechanical assemblers, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working with fixtures, jigs, or precision equipment.
The NM50AP is suited for applications requiring compact, thread-mounted positioning hardware where standard plunger length would interfere with surrounding geometry. The stubby body profile makes it appropriate for shallow boss depths and tight assemblies. Common applications include machine tool fixtures, workholding equipment, electronic enclosures, and light industrial hardware where repeatable tactile detent or retention is needed without heavy locking force. It threads directly into a tapped 8-32 hole and requires no additional hardware beyond the receiving bore.
Designed for installation in any tapped 8-32 threaded bore requiring a stubby spring plunger with a locking element. Suitable for use in machine fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and similar mechanical assemblies where thread depth accommodates a 0.437 inch body length.
Installation requires a properly tapped 8-32 hole to the appropriate depth to accept the full body length. Use a standard hex key or driver compatible with the plunger drive feature to thread the plunger in and engage the locking element. De-energize or lock out any powered equipment before servicing assemblies that contain spring plungers. Avoid overtightening, as excessive torque can damage the locking element or distort the plunger body.
