The VARGUS 80830 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal UN thread milling operations. Built from micrograin carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert is engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. It runs at 7 teeth per inch (TPI) and conforms to ANSI B1.1:74 standards for Unified National thread forms. The R41I insert style and size code 41 designation place it in the Standard MiTM series. The manufacturer grade is VTX, indicating a high-performance carbide substrate suited for precision threading applications. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in thread milling toolholders.
This insert is intended for internal thread milling on stainless steel workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code M. It suits production environments where consistent thread geometry and surface finish are critical, such as aerospace, medical device, and industrial equipment manufacturing. The TiAlN coating extends tool life when machining austenitic and martensitic stainless steel grades, where heat generation and tool wear are primary concerns. It fits into the Standard MiTM series toolholder system designed for modular thread milling setups.
Designed for use with Standard MiTM series thread milling toolholders accepting R41I style inserts in size code 41. Compatible with internal UN thread milling applications conforming to ANSI B1.1:74.
Installation and replacement of thread mill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or toolholder fixture before replacing inserts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque sequence for clamping screws and verify insert seating before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or damage before installing a new insert.
