The VARGUS 80720 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal threading operations on CNC milling machines. Manufactured from micrograin carbide with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, this insert delivers extended tool life and dimensional accuracy in demanding cutting applications. It is configured for UN thread forms at 12 teeth per inch (TPI) and conforms to ANSI B1.1:74 standards. The insert style is R40I with an insert size code of 40, and it carries the VBX manufacturer grade designation. It is suited for machinists and tooling specialists working in precision thread milling environments.
This insert is intended for internal thread milling of UN-standard threads in stainless steel workpieces, classified under workpiece material code M. It fits into the Standard MiTM series insert system. Typical applications include thread milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers where thread form accuracy and coating durability are required. The TiCN PVD coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance when cutting austenitic and other stainless steel grades.
Designed as a replacement insert for Standard MiTM series thread mill bodies accepting the R40I insert style at size code 40. Specific body compatibility should be confirmed against VARGUS tooling documentation before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the thread mill body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before each insert change.
