The VARGUS 80548 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 3/8-16 UN threads in a single helical pass. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiCN, this tool handles demanding threading operations where tool life and thread quality are critical. The 4-flute, right-hand helical configuration provides smooth chip evacuation and consistent thread form. With a cutting diameter of 0.2850 inches, a 0.7500-inch length of cut, and an overall length of 2.9920 inches, it fits standard CNC machining center setups. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments rely on thread mills like this when tapping is not practical or when through-hole and blind-hole flexibility is required.
This thread mill is suited for internal threading operations on CNC machining centers using helical interpolation. The 3/8-16 UN thread standard makes it applicable to general fastener threads common in mechanical assemblies, fixturing, and structural components. The 5/16-inch shank diameter fits standard ER or similar toolholding collets. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a TiCN coating provides adequate wear resistance and reduces built-up edge. Production machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision job shops are the primary users.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation for cutting internal 3/8-16 UN threads. Compatible with toolholding systems accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter.
Installation and operation of this thread mill should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank in a properly sized, balanced collet chuck and verify runout before cutting. Program the CNC controller for helical interpolation at the correct pitch for 3/8-16 UN threads. Always confirm workpiece is securely fixtured and spindle is at a full stop before changing or inspecting tooling.
