The VARGUS 80498 is a carbide thread mill insert engineered for internal UN thread milling operations. Manufactured to the R25I insert style in size code 25, this insert carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating applied through a PVD process, which delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated grades. The VBX manufacturer grade designation indicates this insert is optimized for non-ferrous and similar workpiece material classifications. Machining professionals and CNC toolroom operators install this insert into compatible VARGUS thread mill bodies to produce accurate internal UN threads at 14 threads per inch.
This insert is suited for internal thread milling applications on CNC machining centers where UN unified thread forms are required at 14 TPI. The ANSI B1.1:74 standard compliance confirms the thread form geometry meets established dimensional requirements for unified inch screw threads. Typical applications include production threading of aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous materials in aerospace, general manufacturing, and industrial machining environments. The PVD TiCN coating supports extended tool life in these material groups by reducing built-up edge and heat generation at the cutting zone.
Designed as a replacement carbide insert for compatible VARGUS R25I series thread mill bodies requiring an internal UN 14 TPI insert. Verify body model compatibility against the VARGUS R25I insert size code 25 specification before installation.
Installation of this insert should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool body is removed from the machine before replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by VARGUS for the insert clamping screw to avoid stripping the seat or overtorquing the fastener. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
