The VARGUS 80308 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 3/8-16 UN threads in a single helical pass. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiCN, this tool delivers consistent thread quality in demanding materials where high-speed steel tooling falls short. The 4-flute, right-hand helical geometry produces clean thread forms with reduced cutting forces. A 5/16-inch (0.3125 inches) shank diameter keeps the tool rigid in standard ER or milling chucks, and coolant-through capability helps evacuate chips and manage heat at the cutting zone. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments install this tool in CNC machining centers.
This thread mill is suited for internal threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where thread milling is preferred over tapping - particularly in difficult-to-tap materials, blind holes requiring controlled thread depth, or applications where a single tool must cover a range of thread fits. The 0.3010-inch cutting diameter allows climb or conventional milling strategies. The 0.7810-inch length of cut accommodates standard thread depths for 3/8-16 applications, and the 2.4020-inch overall length provides clearance in most machining center setups.
Designed for internal 3/8-16 UN thread milling applications on CNC machining centers equipped with helical interpolation capability and a tool holder accepting a 0.3125-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this thread mill should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC programmer familiar with thread milling cycles. Secure the shank fully in a collet or milling chuck to the holder's rated grip depth before running. Verify CNC control supports helical interpolation and that the programmed cutting diameter offset matches the tool's actual cutting diameter before cutting to final size. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the tool at first sign of edge degradation to avoid thread-form errors.
