The VARGUS 80294 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal threads in a single helical pass. It handles three thread sizes - 1/2-28, 1/4-28, and 7/16-28 - making it a versatile tool for shops working across multiple thread specifications without changing tooling. The 3-flute, right-hand configuration produces clean, accurate internal threads at 28 teeth per inch (TPI) to UNEF and UNF standards. With a 0.2030-inch cutting diameter and 0.5180-inch length of cut, this mill is suited for tight-tolerance threading operations in machined components. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in demanding materials.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers for internal thread milling in metal components where tap breakage risk is a concern or where a single tool must produce multiple thread sizes. Typical applications include precision parts manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and general machine shops running UNF and UNEF threaded bores. The 1/4-inch shank diameter fits standard collet and end mill holders common to vertical and horizontal machining centers. The bright, uncoated finish suits a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with standard 1/4-inch collet or end mill holders; compatible with internal thread milling operations requiring 1/2-28, 1/4-28, or 7/16-28 UNF and UNEF thread profiles.
Installation and operation of this thread mill should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or removing the tool from the holder. Verify runout at the collet before threading operations, as excessive runout will affect thread quality and tool life. Program helical interpolation parameters per the thread specification and confirm coolant-through lines are active before cutting.
