The VARGUS 80284 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal metric coarse threads. It produces M4x0.7 threads using a three-flute, right-hand helical geometry that generates clean thread forms in a single helical interpolation pass. The 0.1240-inch cutting diameter and 0.3440-inch length of cut make this tool suited for shallow-to-moderate thread depths in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for applications where coating is not required or where post-process inspection is needed. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in deeper bores.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers performing internal thread milling operations on small-diameter metric fastener holes. Typical applications include precision component manufacturing, mold and die work, and production machining where tap breakage risk must be eliminated. The 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch) shank diameter fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found in vertical and horizontal machining centers. The 1.7720-inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard workpiece configurations without excessive overhang.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers equipped with helical interpolation capability and standard collet or end mill holders accepting a 0.1875-inch shank diameter. Minimum nominal bore diameter for thread milling is 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm).
Thread milling requires a CNC control capable of helical interpolation - confirm this capability before programming the toolpath. Secure the shank fully in a balanced, runout-controlled collet or end mill holder; excessive runout will degrade thread quality and reduce tool life. Enable coolant-through flow before engaging the cut to ensure proper chip evacuation, particularly in blind holes. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material.
