The VARGUS 80083 is a straight flute thread mill designed for cutting 1-11-1/2 NPT threads on both external and internal applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiAlN, this tool delivers consistent thread geometry and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 5-flute configuration provides a stable cutting action across the 1.043-inch length of cut. With a 5/8-inch shank diameter and an overall length of 3.622 inches, the 80083 mounts in standard milling chucks and collet holders. It is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC milling platforms requiring precision NPT thread production.
The VARGUS 80083 is suited for NPT pipe thread milling on CNC machining centers where interpolated thread milling is preferred over tapping. The 1-11-1/2 thread size corresponds to 1-inch nominal NPT, making this tool applicable to pipe fitting and fluid system component machining in industrial, oil and gas, plumbing, and mechanical fabrication environments. It handles both external threads on pipe ends and internal threads in bored features within the same tool, reducing changeovers when both thread types are required on a single part.
Designed for CNC milling machines using helical interpolation to produce 1-11-1/2 NPT external and internal pipe threads. Thread Standard: NPT. Coolant-through is not supported; external coolant or mist lubrication applies.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC thread milling cycles and helical interpolation programming. Mount the shank in a precision collet or milling chuck sized for 5/8-inch shanks, ensuring proper runout before cutting. Always verify spindle speed and feed rate against the tool manufacturer's recommendations for the workpiece material before engaging the cut. Do not use this tool in manual milling or hand-held applications.
