The VARGUS 66000 is an indexable threading toolholder designed for external threading operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built for right-hand cutting, it accepts 3ER series inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, providing repeatable positioning and reliable insert lock during threading passes. The toolholder features a square shank measuring 0.5 x 0.5 inches with an overall length of 3.27 inches, making it a compact, direct-mount solution for standard tool posts and turrets. No coolant-through capability is incorporated; this is a dry or flood-coolant external setup. Machinists and tool and die professionals working in production or job-shop environments will recognize this as a standard AL-style holder for metric and unified threading applications.
This toolholder is suited for external threading in both production and job-shop turning environments. Its right-hand orientation and standard AL toolholder style make it a common fit on conventional and CNC lathes where threaded features are cut on the outside diameter of a workpiece. The 3ER insert compatibility supports a range of thread forms when paired with the appropriate insert grade and profile. This is a single-use-per-setup, non-multi-use tool intended strictly for threading, not turning or grooving.
Designed for use with 3ER series threading inserts. Fits standard tool posts and turrets accepting a 1/2 inch square shank toolholder in the AL style.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder mounting procedures. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before changing or indexing inserts. Verify shank seating and torque the clamping screws to the turret manufacturer's specification using appropriate hex keys. Confirm insert orientation and thread hand before taking any threading pass.
