The VARGUS 64486 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal UN thread milling applications. This insert carries the VTX submicron carbide grade with a TiAlN finish, providing wear resistance suited for cutting stainless steel and other demanding workpiece materials. It operates at 14 teeth per inch and features a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. The 3I insert style fits standard TM series thread milling toolholders. Machinists and tooling specialists working in precision machining environments install these inserts as replaceable cutting elements in thread milling operations, offering a cost-effective path to consistent thread quality without replacing the full tool body.
This insert is intended for internal UN thread milling conforming to ANSI B1.1:74 standards. The primary workpiece material designation is M, corresponding to stainless steel, making this insert well suited for industries such as aerospace, medical device manufacturing, and general precision machining where stainless thread forms are common. It is used in CNC machining centers wherever a replaceable insert-style thread mill is preferred over a solid carbide tool. The non-conical geometry is appropriate for standard thread milling passes on through or blind internal features.
Designed for use with VARGUS Standard TM series thread milling toolholders accepting the 3I insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
Thread mill inserts are installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians on CNC machining centers. Power down the spindle and follow machine lockout procedures before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for clamping torque, and inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm the insert is fully seated and secure before resuming cutting operations.
