The VARGUS 63037 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 16 threads per inch. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed threading operations. The insert features a 3ER style geometry with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, and a thickness of 3.60 mm (approximately 0.142 inches). Right-hand orientation makes it a standard choice for conventional external threading setups on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert in compatible 3ER-style threading toolholders.
This insert is suited for external UN thread profiles on turned components across general machining, manufacturing, and production environments. The UN thread standard covers unified national thread forms widely used in North American fastener and mechanical assembly work. The 16 TPI specification places it in common use for medium-diameter fastener threads. It is intended for right-hand thread cutting in applications where a TiAlN-coated solid carbide edge provides performance advantages over uncoated or cermet alternatives. Sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in 3ER-style external threading toolholders compatible with laydown insert seating. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation to confirm correct seating and clamping geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual turning equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and confirm clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert edge and seating surface for chips or debris before securing to prevent premature edge failure or poor thread form.
