The VARGUS 59491 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading equipment. This insert carries the VTX grade designation and features a TiAlN PVD coating that improves wear resistance and heat dissipation during high-speed threading operations. It is configured in a 5IR insert style with a right-hand cutting orientation, 4 threads per inch (TPI), and a 5/8-inch inscribed circle (IC). The 60-degree included angle is standard for Unified National thread forms. Solid carbide construction provides rigidity and edge retention when threading ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials across a broad range of applications.
The 59491 is suited for internal threading operations in production and job-shop environments where consistent thread quality on UN-standard bores is required. The universal primary workpiece material classification means this insert is engineered to perform across material categories including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on threading toolholders accepting 5IR laydown inserts. The TiAlN coating supports dry or minimal-coolant cutting strategies where applicable.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for CNC and manual lathes using 5IR laydown insert toolholders configured for internal UN threading. Compatible across workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque before resuming operation. Verify thread pitch and insert orientation against the toolholder specification before cutting to confirm correct 5IR seating and right-hand engagement.
