The VARGUS 59483 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 7 threads per inch (TPI). It carries the VTX manufacturer grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering hard, wear-resistant performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 60-degree included angle and an inscribed circle of 12.70 mm (1/2 inch), with a thickness of 4.76 mm. It fits the 4IR insert style and is built to ANSI B1.1:74 thread standards. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this insert for precise internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for internal UN threading applications in production and job-shop environments. The Universal primary workpiece material designation means it performs across multiple material groups, including ISO categories H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range covers hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. The 4IR style fits standard laydown threading toolholders of matching insert seat geometry, making it a straightforward drop-in for existing setups running UN internal thread profiles.
Designed for use in 4IR-style laydown threading toolholders configured for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 7 TPI. Compatible with toolholder seats accepting a 4IR insert geometry with a 12.70 mm inscribed circle and 4.76 mm thickness.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC lathes or manual turning centers with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly against all locating surfaces of the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Verify thread profile and TPI setup with a thread gauge on the first part before running production.
