The VARGUS 59038 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal Acme (3G) threads on a lathe or threading machine. It carries the 5IR4ACME designation, meaning it is a 5-series internal right-hand insert ground for Acme thread form at 4 threads per inch (TPI) with a 29-degree included angle. The insert features a PVD-applied TiN coating for improved wear resistance and edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 5/8-inch (15.88 mm) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.250 inches (6.35 mm), it seats in standard 5IR-style laydown toolholders. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in threading operations requiring precise Acme thread profiles.
This insert is suited for internal Acme thread applications in general machining environments, both job-shop and production settings. The Acme 3G thread standard is common in power-transmission components such as lead screws, jack screws, and linear-motion assemblies. The universal primary workpiece material classification means the VKX grade and TiN coating are effective across carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard for conventional threading passes. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces per order.
Designed for use in 5IR-series laydown threading toolholders configured for internal Acme thread applications. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC turning specialist in a lathe or turning center equipped with a compatible 5IR laydown toolholder. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is fully removed or secured before seating or replacing the insert. Verify correct insert orientation - right-hand cutting direction - before initiating any threading cycle. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance and inspect the insert seat for debris before each use.
