The VARGUS 58722 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal partial profile 60-degree threading operations. Built to the VTX grade specification with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form across a wide range of workpiece materials. It covers a pitch range of 3.50 to 5.00 mm (7 to 5 TPI) and seats in a 4IR-style insert pocket. The 12.70 mm (1/2 inch) inscribed circle and 4.76 mm thickness conform to standard laydown insert geometry. This insert is installed and used by machinists and tool-room technicians performing CNC or manual lathe threading work on internal thread features.
This insert is suited for internal threading applications on turning centers and engine lathes where a partial profile 60-degree thread form is required. The right-hand cutting geometry makes it appropriate for standard right-hand internal threads. The universal primary workpiece material classification means it is rated across multiple material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, H, and S). It is commonly used in production and job-shop environments where a single insert grade must handle varied materials without frequent grade changes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for 4IR-style laydown insert toolholders configured for internal 60-degree partial profile threading applications.
This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC turning centers or manual engine lathes equipped with a compatible 4IR laydown insert toolholder. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp - do not overtighten by hand estimation. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming threading operations.
