The VARGUS 58721 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting applications. Manufactured in the 4IR insert style with a VKX grade and PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert handles partial profile 60-degree threads on the right-hand cutting direction. It covers a pitch range of 3.50 to 5.00 mm (7 to 5 TPI), making it suitable across multiple thread standards that fall within the 60-degree included angle family. The inscribed circle measures 12.70 mm (1/2 inch) and the insert thickness is 4.76 mm. Solid carbide construction delivers wear resistance and dimensional consistency under continuous threading cycles on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is intended for internal threading on a wide range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temp alloys, and other materials represented by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard toolholders accepting 4IR-style laydown threading inserts. Typical installation environments include production machining shops, job shops, and maintenance repair operations where consistent thread quality on bored or drilled features is required. The TiN coating extends tool life across diverse material types without requiring grade changes for general-purpose threading work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard 4IR laydown threading toolholders accepting a 12.70 mm inscribed circle and 4.76 mm insert thickness. Compatible with workpiece materials across material classification codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Threading inserts should be installed and changed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and clamping procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before any insert change. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the toolholder's specified clamping torque range or attempt to regrind solid carbide threading inserts.
