The VARGUS 53835 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external Whitworth thread forms at 19 threads per inch (TPI). Finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it is built for durability and heat resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 55-degree included angle, a 9.53 mm inscribed circle (equivalent to 3/8 inch), and a thickness of 3.60 mm. It is designated as a right-hand insert in the 3ER style and carries the VTX manufacturer grade. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert on compatible laydown threading toolholders for precision external thread cutting.
This insert is suited for external Whitworth thread applications in both production and job-shop turning environments. The Universal primary workpiece material designation covers a broad range of material codes including H, K, M, N, P, and S, making it adaptable to steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is appropriate for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers wherever a 19 TPI Whitworth profile is required. The TiAlN PVD coating supports higher cutting speeds and extended tool life compared to uncoated carbide.
Designed as a direct-fit laydown threading insert for toolholders accepting the 3ER insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the manufacturer's toolholder selection guide prior to installation.
Installation and replacement of threading inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a de-energized and locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamping screws specified for the toolholder to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Always verify thread profile and pitch against the workpiece specification with a thread gauge before beginning production runs.
