The VARGUS 53630 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 11 threads per inch. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which builds surface hardness and thermal resistance for extended tool life in interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert follows the 2UIR style geometry and fits standard U-style toolholders. At 3.17 mm thick with a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) inscribed circle, it seats securely in compatible boring bar pockets. Machining professionals and CNC lathe operators use this insert for producing precise 60-degree unified national internal threads across a broad range of workpiece materials.
The 53630 is suited for internal threading operations on CNC and manual lathes in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments. Its universal primary workpiece material rating covers ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cast irons, stainless steels, heat-resistant alloys, and aluminum families, identified under material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The neutral hand designation means the insert geometry supports both left-hand and right-hand internal thread applications without requiring a dedicated hand-specific toolholder setup.
Designed for use in U-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 2UIR insert style with a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle. Verify pocket dimensions and clamping method against toolholder specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm thread pitch and hand orientation against the workpiece drawing before initiating a threading pass.
