The VARGUS 53593 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads on a lathe or CNC turning center. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It carries the 3JIR insert style with a 60-degree included angle, producing right-hand internal NPT thread profiles at 11.5 threads per inch (TPI). The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) and the insert thickness is approximately 0.142 inches (3.60 mm). This insert is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working to NPT pipe thread standards.
This insert is suited for internal NPT threading operations in production and job-shop environments. It is commonly used when producing pipe-threaded bores in fittings, manifolds, valves, and fluid-system components that require leak-free NPT connections. The single-tooth-per-side geometry makes it appropriate for precise thread chasing and full-form threading passes. The VCB grade designation indicates a coated carbide substrate optimized for threading applications. Typical users include machinists in HVAC, plumbing, and industrial fluid-handling component manufacturing.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 3JIR laydown insert style. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket dimensions before installation. Compatible with lathes and CNC turning centers configured for internal threading passes to NPT thread standards.
This insert is installed and serviced by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Ensure the insert seats fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket and that the clamping screw is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Confirm thread profile and pitch with a calibrated NPT thread gauge after the first pass before committing to full production runs.
