The VARGUS 53588 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured to a VCB grade with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert offers broad material compatibility and consistent thread form across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 3JIR insert style features a 60-degree included angle and an SCB chipbreaker suited for standard threading operations. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, the 53588 fits standard toolholders used in CNC and manual lathes for internal threading. Manufactured under ISO 9001:2008 quality standards, it is a reliable choice for machinists and tooling professionals requiring repeatable UN thread production.
This insert is applied in internal threading operations on components requiring Unified National (UN) thread forms. The 12 TPI pitch and 3/8-inch inscribed circle make it appropriate for mid-size bore threading in both production and job-shop environments. Compatible workpiece materials span a wide range, including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened materials, as reflected by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Machinists in metalworking, aerospace component manufacturing, and general machining operations will find this insert suited to their standard threading requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for standard 3IR internal toolholders used in UN thread cutting applications. Specific toolholder and machine compatibility should be verified against the 3JIR12UN insert designation and 3/8-inch inscribed circle specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the insert clamp to the manufacturer-specified seating torque for the toolholder in use. Verify insert orientation and hand designation before resuming cutting operations. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when changing carbide inserts.
