The VARGUS 53584 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Made from solid carbide with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert handles right-hand internal threading across a partial profile 60-degree thread form. It covers a threads-per-inch range of 14 to 8 TPI and a pitch range of 1.75 to 3.00 mm, making it suitable for a broad range of fastener thread profiles. The insert style is 3JIR, with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and a thickness of 3.60 mm. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments use this insert for threading bores in steel, stainless, and similar materials where coating durability and edge consistency are required.
This insert is intended for internal threading operations on turning equipment where a partial profile 60-degree thread standard applies. Typical applications include threading bores for metric and unified thread forms within the 14 to 8 TPI range. The right-hand cutting geometry and single tooth per side design make it well-suited for finishing internal threads in components such as hydraulic fittings, flanges, and machined housings. The TiAlN coating provides heat resistance suitable for dry or semi-dry cutting conditions at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed as a replacement threading insert for toolholders accepting the 3JIR insert style with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder seat dimensions and clamping style before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and thread accuracy.
