The VARGUS 53583 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal partial profile 60-degree thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers consistent thread form accuracy across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert covers a pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm (48-8 TPI), making it suitable for a wide spectrum of unified and metric thread sizes in a single tool. With a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and right-hand cut orientation, it fits standard laydown insert toolholders commonly found in production turning environments. This insert is typically installed by machinists and tooling technicians in high-production or job-shop settings.
The 53583 is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and aluminum. It carries material code designations H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering the full spectrum of common turning materials. The partial profile 60-degree thread standard means it can cut a range of thread pitches without a dedicated single-pitch insert, reducing tooling inventory requirements. Typical applications include threading bores on hydraulic fittings, valve bodies, pipe couplings, and general machined components requiring internal threads.
Designed for use with 3JIR-series laydown threading toolholders that accept inserts with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and 3.60 mm thickness. Insert style code is 3JIR with size code 3. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer specified clamp torque - do not overtighten the clamp screw. Confirm insert seating and orientation before resuming cutting operations.
